Newman Regional Health Medical Partners Occupational Health offers a variety of occupational health and worker’s compensation services. We are a full-service medical provider for the commercial community with more than 100 Years of service to our community. No matter your field of commerce, if you have employees then we stand ready to support you when your healthcare needs are greatest.

The Occupational Health Unit works with you, your management team, and your employees to assure a streamlined approach to each case.

Most of our community partners use our services for pre-employment screening and physicals. Our DOT Certified providers support state requirements for physical exams. You will find the scheduling very flexible and efficient. DOT exams are required to be scheduled. Our labs are available 24/7, 7 days a week for the convenience of your employees.

In the event of an injury or trauma, we are unlike other Occupational Health providers. We have immediate access to full laboratory services, extensive radiological services, orthopedic, and rehabilitation services, a level 4 trauma center, and an urgent care center with extended evening and weekend hours. Best yet, they are all under one roof.

Occupational Health

Drug and Alcohol Testing

As a community partner, we can help assess your employees’ exposure to drugs and alcohol. We perform initial employment screenings, routine testing, or a response to problematic behavior.

  • Urine drug screening – Our labs can perform rapid and extensive drug screens including both DOT & Non-DOT options. We can test for THC or Nicotine consumption.
  • Breath alcohol testing – Breath alcohol tests, sometimes called a breathalizer, are used to estimate the amount of alcohol you have in your blood by testing the air you breathe out.  

Physicals

Current physical examinations are often required by state laws or other regulatory agencies. We encourage everyone who operates heavy equipment or drives a bus or a truck.

  • DOT physicals – This complete examination is required by the Department of Transportation which assesses an individual’s fitness to operate a commercial vehicle.
  • HAZMAT physicals – required by the HAZWOPER standard must include a medical and work history with special emphasis on symptoms related to the handling of hazardous substances and health hazards, and to fitness for duty (including the ability to wear required PPE under conditions that may be expected at the worksite).
  • Bus driver physicals – State laws require bus drivers to be evaluated before they are allowed to operate their vehicles.
  • General physicals – This comprehensive exam assesses both medical history and abnormal findings.
  • Heavy lifting test – This test assesses an employee’s ability to safely lift a given weight.
  • Jamar grip test – The Jamar test measures the force an individual can apply by squeezing.

Immunizations/Vaccines

Preventing illness in your employees is an excellent opportunity to protect not only the personal health of your employees but the productivity of your business by avoiding sickness-related absenteeism.

  • Influenza immunization – We offer a wide variety of access to get a flu vaccination, Express Care, regular office visit or we can provide onsite flu vaccine clinics for larger groups.
  • COVID-19 Vaccines and Boosters – We provide ready access to various authorized vaccines and boosters and can advise your employees on their decision.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination – Any employee who may come into contact with blood may required to be offered this vaccination by their employer.
  • Tetanus immunization – This rare but severe disease can spread through broken skin contacting contaminated materials. 10-year boosters are also available.
  • Antibody Titers – We run various blood tests to assess whether certain immunizations are needed.  Common titers include: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella and Hepatitis.

Comprehensive Lab Services

Comprehensive laboratory tests are often required to get a diagnosis of an issue facing your employee and your business. Our laboratory department has a convenient walk-in collection center at our main entrance as well as 24-hour availability, 7 days a week through our main lab.

  • Urinalysis – Urine can be tested to detect a variety of issues, including liver disease, diabetes, and kidney disease.
  • TB skin test – This test determines if a patient has an immune response to the pathogen that causes tuberculosis.
  • Drug Screening – Urinalysis and blood analysis testing
  • Hepatitis C testing – Hepatitis is a severe liver disease that can only be detected through blood tests.
  • HIV 1 and 2 testing – HIV often carries no early symptoms, making testing a necessity to be certain of an employee’s safety.

Radiological Exams

The full suite of radiology services are available on-site to provide an accurate and rapid diagnosis to help your employee get back to work as fast as possible.

  • X-rays – fully trained technicians and radiologists can offer a full range of images as needed for a proper diagnosis, including extremities and back-rays.
  • CT Scan – Computed tomography (CT), also known as a “CAT scan,” is a medical diagnostic tool that creates images of internal structures within the human body. 
  • MRI – Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) produces detailed images of the body’s organs, tissues and joints without patient discomfort or exposure to radiation. 
  • Ultrasound – Ultrasound is a non-invasive procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images.

Cardiopulmonary Services

  • EKG – An electrocardiogram evaluation tests the electrical activity in a patient’s heart.
  • Respiratory clearance fit test – This evaluation determines whether or not an employee is fit to wear a respirator. 
  • Spirometry – This test measures the amount of air a person can move in and out of their lungs.

Physical Therapy Services

Our occupational health clients have access to Newman Physical Therapy and their suite of services to help your employee return to work as soon as possible following an injury.

When a serious injury occurs

Every employer takes safety seriously, but no matter how many precautions you put in place, there is still an opportunity for a serious injury or illness to affect one of your staff. If that occurs, you need to be able to trust in the fast reaction time of the Emergency Medical Services system in the area.

Newman Regional Health is the only Level IV Trauma Center in the region

Our Level IV Trauma Center has demonstrated an ability to provide advanced trauma life support (ATLS) before the transfer of patients to a higher-level trauma center.  It provides evaluation, stabilization, and diagnostic capabilities for injured patients.

  • We are equipped to provide basic emergency department ATLS protocols and 24-hour laboratory coverage.
  • We have available trauma nurse(s) and physicians available upon patient arrival.
  • We provide surgery and critical-care services.
  • We have transfer agreements for patients requiring more comprehensive care at a Level I or Level II Trauma Center. 
  • We have a comprehensive quality assessment program.
  • We are involved with prevention efforts and have an active outreach program for our referring communities. 

Critical Care Transport

Ground Transportation

Depending upon several factors during the treatment of a patient when it becomes necessary to transport the patient for specialized medical care, Newman Regional Health relies on partnerships with Lyon County EMS and TECHS EMS to provide critical care ground transport.
These critical care transport teams are comprised of highly trained and dedicated crews that safely and quickly provide patients the transport medicine necessary.

Air Ambulance Services

LifeSave Transport is based at Newman Regional Health and offers high-level air transport and air ambulance services to the region. They are the only air ambulance certified to carry whole blood for in-flight and rescue purposes.
