Summer 2024 Nurse Externship
Our Nurse Externship program provides a summer learning experience tor college students who have completed their junior year of nursing school.
The nurse Extern will work side by side with a licensed RN preceptor for six weeks. This is a PAID program.
Potential primary areas for student rotations include:
- Emergency Department
- Medical/Surgical/Telemetry
- Obstetrics
- Surgical Services
- Intensive Care Unit
- Clinical Decision Unit
- Inpatient Rehab

Six weeks of paid time with RN preceptor.
- Final nursing unit assignments will be made in May, 2024
- Assignments are subject to change due to staffing/preceptor needs of the organization.
- All duties will be performed under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Work within the nursing process to provide direct nursing care to assigned patients.
- Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.
- Assist the RN in collection of assessment data and report all pertinent information immediately.
- Perform delegated nursing procedures specific to areas of practice safely. efficiently and with technical skill.
- Assist the RN in identifying any knowledge deficit of the patient and family throughout the hospitalization.
- Administer medications under the direct supervision of an RN per organizational policy.
- Delivery of cost effective care through appropriate use of available resources.
- Document interventions pertinent to the patient’s condition throughout the hospital stay.
- Nurse Externs will be expected to work the same shift as their RN preceptor which could include days, nights, and weekend shifts. Please let us know of any barriers that would prevent you from meeting expectation.
