Global Wave of Light
Event Honors Baby Loss Awareness Week

(EMPORIA, KS) To honor families experiencing baby loss, Newman Regional Health’s Women’s Life Center will host Emporia’s Wave of Light event on Tuesday, October 15th, 2024. This event coincides with Baby Loss Awareness Week, a global initiative acknowledging pregnancy and infant loss.

The Wave of Light ceremony provides a space for families to remember their loved ones by lighting a candle in their memory. The event begins at 6:45 pm with a remembrance speech followed by a Candle Lighting Ceremony at 7:00 pm. The ceremony will take place at the Pond in C of E Park. The entire community is welcome to attend and offer support.

Honoring Lost Loved Ones
Bereaved families are especially encouraged to participate in a video presentation. They can submit photos, videos, or meaningful phrases or verses to be included by visiting newmanrh.org/waveoflight. The deadline for submissions is October 10th, 2024

A Time for Unity and Support
The Wave of Light ceremony fosters unity among families who have experienced child loss, regardless of the timing. Additionally, there is a grief support group for bereaved parents on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm in the Sunflower Room at Newman Regional Health.

Fourth Year of Bringing Comfort
This marks the fourth year Newman Regional Health has hosted the Wave of Light ceremony in Emporia. Highlighting the event’s significance, Chief Nursing Officer Heather Aylward states, “Pregnancy and baby loss is a uniquely personal and devastating experience. It’s a heartbreaking reality for many families. During Baby Loss Awareness Week, we invite you to join us in lighting a candle and remembering all the precious little lives lost too soon.”
