Local stories highlight rehabilitation services at Newman Regional Health
National Rehabilitation Awareness Week
(EMPORIA, KS) This week, we celebrate National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, a time to recognize the vital role rehabilitation services play in helping patients regain their independence and improve their quality of life. At Newman Regional Health, our dedicated team of forty rehabilitation professionals is committed to providing comprehensive care that empowers individuals to return to their daily activities.
From physical therapy and occupational therapy to speech therapy and social work, our services are designed to address a wide range of needs, including those resulting from injuries, surgeries, strokes, and other conditions. By offering these services locally, we enable patients to receive personalized care close to home, surrounded by family and friends.
Dorothy Deweese, an Emporia resident, recently completed her rehabilitation journey at Newman Regional Health following complications from back surgery. She expressed her gratitude for the compassionate care she received and the positive impact it had on her recovery. “The therapists do a good job of working with you and evaluating what you need. The facilities are excellent. It has helped me immensely.” Dorothy shared that she chose Newman Regional Health because it was close to home. “My family has been able to come see me.”
Judith Patton, another Emporia resident, also praised the exceptional care she received after experiencing a medical emergency. The rehabilitation services she received were instrumental in her recovery and helped her regain her functional abilities quickly.
For many patients, getting closer to home is essential. If you or a loved one are hospitalized following an orthopedic procedure, extended hospital stays, suffered a stroke or brain injury, you may qualify for rehabilitation services. You can request the case manager or social worker to send a referral to Newman Regional Health.
To celebrate National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, Newman Regional Health hosted a variety of events, including a Relay for Rehab and a Rehab Luncheon. These events provided an opportunity for the community to learn more about the rehabilitation services available locally and to support the cause.
In addition, Newman Regional Health is accepting donations of gently used durable medical equipment (DME) through Friday, September 20th. These donations will help future patients whose insurance may not cover all the necessary equipment. From walkers and wheelchairs to shower chairs and commodes, donations can be made from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm at Newman Regional Health Entrance F.
As members of the American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association, we are dedicated to transforming lives through access to high-quality rehabilitation care. We invite the community to join us in celebrating the valuable services offered right here at home.
To celebrate National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, Newman Regional Health is hosting Relay for Rehab on Tuesday, September 17th at the Flint Hills Mall. The event is open to anyone in the public who is interested in learning about local rehab. The community is invited to engage in rehabilitation activities, explore community vendors and partners in rehabilitation healthcare, enter to win door prizes, and more. Relay for Rehab will run from 5:00pm – 7:00pm.
On Wednesday, September 18th local senior citizens are invited to listen to a presentation by Inpatient Rehabilitation staff about the therapies and care they can receive at Newman Regional Health. This Rehabilitation Luncheon is happening at the Emporia Senior Center during their regularly scheduled lunchtime meal. Attendees can get a $5 meal for lunch and learn from the presentation beginning at 11:00am.
During the week of September 16-22, Newman Regional Health is also taking donations of gently used Durable Medical Equipment to help future patients. From walkers and wheelchairs to shower chairs and commodes, donations can be made from 8:00am – 4:00pm at Newman Regional Health Entrance F. Donations can also be dropped off at the Relay for Rehab event on Tuesday.
