NEWMAN REGIONAL HEALTH NOW PROVIDING THE LATEST IN BONE HEALTH ASSESSMENT

(Emporia, KS) — Newman Regional Health has expanded its health and wellness services for men and women with the addition of the Horizon™ DXA bone densitometry system from Hologic.

Osteoporosis is a growing healthcare crisis affecting millions of men and women worldwide.  Healthcare costs associated with osteoporosis are staggering, and the effect on a patient’s quality of life can be devastating.  Only about 10% of women over the age of 65 have normal bone mass.  77% of American women with osteoporosis are undiagnosed (and therefore untreated).1  Fortunately, osteoporosis is detectable and treatable and testing is safe and non-invasive.

The imaging technology of the Horizon™ DXA system provides superb image quality with advanced diagnostic tools to support early detection and treatment of osteoporosis.  Horizon enables new dimensions in care, including greater insights into biomechanical strength, visualization of calcification in the abdominal aorta that can indicate heart disease, lumbar spine and proximal femur studies, BMD measurements of the entire skeleton, atypical femur fracture (AFF) assessment, and many other clinical applications.

“We are grateful for the financial support provided by the Walter S. & Evan C. Jones Testamentary Trust, William and Aloha Preston Family Trust, Capitol Federal Foundation, and the Lyon County Commission,” stated Bob Wright, CEO at Newman Regional Health.  “Through their generosity, our hospital now has the technology to help our physicians and advanced practice providers diagnose and treat osteoporosis and heart disease sooner than ever before.”

The addition of a bone densitometry system completes a $600,000+ investment in the W.S. & E.C. Jones Breast Care Center at Newman Regional Health.  Other updates include the addition of 3D mammography and stereotactic breast ultrasound completed in February 2022.

Newman Regional Health is hosting a Business After Hours event on April 28th at 5:00pm, in partnership with the Emporia Chamber of Commerce, where the public will be invited to tour the space and learn about the enhanced equipment and services provided within the W.S. & E.C. Jones Breast Care Center.
