The Newman Regional Health Nurse Residency Program is a part of the 1st year of every newly licensed nurse (RN or LPN) that starts their career with us. The program is designed to support you in transitioning from a student to a professional practice role. The residency will also help address problems/challenges and engage nurse residents in a series of learning and work experiences to enhance their potential for success. In the program, you will receive support, education, professional development, and mentoring.

Our main objective is to help you become a safe, competent, confident, and satisfied independent nurse! The first year of practice can be a stressful time for new grads, so every 1st Year Nurse participant will also be assigned a preceptor on their unit to ensure oversight of their development.

Nurse residents are accepted into all clinical areas, intermittently throughout the year. Some of our practice areas include the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Women’s Life Center, Rehabilitation, Medical/Surgical, Operating Room, and Clinical Decision Unit.

How will the nurse residency program help you reach your full potential?

  • Communication and Conflict Resolution
  • Evidence-Based Practice
  • Patient Education/ Infection Control
  • Managing the patient’s changing condition
