Breast Care Center

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death from cancer for women in the areas served by Newman Regional Health. In the United States, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes. Eighty percent of these women do not have any of the reported risk factors, other than being female and aging. Breast Care is an essential part of your healthcare plan.

In Kansas, the female incidence of breast cancer and the female incidence of death caused by breast cancer are higher than in surrounding states. The key to surviving breast cancer is early diagnosis through regular screening mammograms, breast self-exams, and yearly exams by your personal physician.

In an effort to comprehensively address our community’s needs, Newman Regional Health opened the W.S. & E.C. Jones Breast Care Center in Emporia, Kansas on February 13, 2012. It is a comprehensive breast care center, dedicated to screening more women and reducing the personal tragedies associated with breast cancer.

The center enables women to receive timely diagnosis of breast cancer, with the hope of decreasing mortality from breast cancer for women in Lyon County and the area served by Newman Regional Health.

The W.S. & E.C. Jones Breast Care Center at Newman Regional Health enables patients to obtain preventive screening and diagnostic procedures locally in a comfortable environment from a multi-disciplinary team of caring professionals.

The team includes board-certified oncologists, radiologists, and surgeons supporting your personal physician, a mammography technologist and support personnel trained to support patients and their family members through the entire treatment process.

Along with digital mammography, other services include stereotactic breast biopsy, needle localizations, and ultrasound.

Newman Regional Health in Emporia, Kansas is committed to bringing patients the most advanced treatments and technology available. Technological advancements result in less invasive therapies and improve diagnostics.

We believe that early detection of breast cancer is essential for successful treatment and recovery. We also know that not every patient has the financial resources available for a potentially life-saving screening mammogram. Each year, The W.S. & E.C. Jones Breast Care Center establishes a special fund to assist our community residents who need assistance.

Residents of our service area of Lyon, Coffey, Chase, Morris, Osage, or Greenwood counties are eligible. The program was developed to assist patients with no insurance coverage and/or who are ineligible for Early Detection Works (EDW) funding (this includes if EDW grant funds are exhausted). The funds are for screening mammograms only at the W.S. & E.C. Jones Breast Care Center.

A patient must first apply for Early Detection Works funding through the Kansas Department of Health and Environment at https:kdheks.gov/edw or by calling 1-877-277-1368.

If patients do not qualify for EDW funding, the Breast Care Screening Fund may be able to help.  To apply, download the application, and follow the instructions to be considered.

Newman regional health is part of a group of facilities across the country raising the standard of care for every patient as a Pink Ribbon Facility.

We take pride in providing every woman that comes to us for a mammogram with a digital mammography exam. Digital mammography offers a number of practical advantages and patient conveniences.

Digital images are easily stored and transferred electronically which aid the patient in their care and their search for a cure.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women, exceeded only by lung cancer. The stage at which breast cancer is detected influences a woman’s chance of survival. If detected early, the five-year survival rate is 97%.
