Autism Awareness
April is Autism Awareness Month, and April 2 is World Autism Awareness Day. These observances serve to educate people and promote autism awareness and inclusion nationwide. More than 3.5 million Americans, including children, live with autism, so you may know someone on the spectrum without being aware of it.
What can you do to support this cause? Wear blue on Autism Awareness Day. Seek out credible organizations such as Autism Speaks, the Autism Society, and the Autism Research Foundation to learn more about the condition or donate to research efforts.
Infant Immunization Week
National Infant Immunization Week takes place April 21-28 this year. This week is an annual observance that aims to highlight the importance of immunizing infants to protect them and others from vaccine-preventable diseases, as well as to celebrate the successes of immunization efforts in the past and going forward. Thanks to essential progress in immunizations, it’s possible to protect infants and children from 14 vaccine-preventable diseases before they reach 2 years of age. Thanks to vaccines, many diseases have been greatly reduced, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t still exist—that’s why vaccinations are so important for you and for your children.
Every Kid Healthy Week
This year, April 23-27 is Every Kid Healthy Week, an observance that focuses on school health and wellness for children. Schools play an important role in the health and wellness of their students, and the focus this week is on nutrition, physical activity, and learning. This is a good time to explore how you can help to keep your children healthy during the school year, too. From hand washing to eating a nutritional breakfast, healthy habits start at a young age!
