Index of Services
Ultrasound is a noninvasive procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to create digitized images. A wand-like device (transducer) passes the sound waves into your body where they're reflected back to the transducer. A computer converts the reflected sound waves (echoes) into a moving image. The image is then displayed on a video screen and photographed for study. An ultrasound may be used for viewing developing fetuses, abdominal organs, thyroid, prostate, a heart's function, and blood flow through major vessels. The digitized images are transmitted to a laser imager for permanent documentation on film.
