The Sleep Disorders Center was opened in 1996 to help individuals with sleep disorders such as sleep apnea. The center is equipped with state of the art equipment to monitor the patient as he or she sleeps in a home-like bedroom. A trained technologist monitors these measurements and the patient’s sleep habits. This procedure is called a polysomnogram or all-night sleep study. A physician will look at the results along with the patient’s history and other lab test to make a diagnosis. Symptoms of sleep apnea are loud irregular snoring, occasional gasps for breath, sudden body movements, or excessive sweating. While the person is awake, they can experience excessive daytime sleepiness, morning headaches, high blood pressure, impotence, or personality changes. If you would like more information on the Sleep Disorders Center, please call the Cardiopulmonary Services Department at 620-343-6800, extension 1300.
