The 18 bed Transitional Care Center closed July, 2004. A patient will no longer have to be physically moved to a different unit when they are being transferred from an acute bed into a skilled bed. They will remain in their own room. Transferring patients to "skilled" status from "acute" status provides many benefits for the patient. The patient has more time to recover following an illness or surgery, while others have an admission option for less expensive care than an acute hospitalization. Allowing patients to stay in the same room will reduce the possibility of lost items, relocation confusion for friends and family; and re-orientation for the patient to new staff and surrounding.
