Life sometimes brings unexpected challenges. The Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Newman Regional Health is dedicated to helping individuals recover and reach their greatest potential following a disabling injury or illness. Patients that may benefit from Inpatient Rehabilitation include those affected stroke, neurological disorders, orthopedic procedures, hip fracture, amputations, and major trauma.
Our Inpatient Therapists provide intensive physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy programs to help patients develop new skills, relearn previous skills, and foster a healthy return to enjoyable life activities. Patients find that our rehabilitation program is different from a routine hospital stay. We believe that caring for patients means helping them learn to do as much for themselves as possible.
Patients may participate in several types of rehabilitation therapy:
Our rehabilitation specialists strive to help the patient improve mobility, strength, and independence while providing hope and encouragement to the patient and family.
Examples of rehabilitation goals include:
- Increase independence in activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, & meal preparation
- Walk safely with or without adaptive equipment, such as a cane or walker
- Improve balance and coordination
- Maximize communication skills
- Improve swallowing ability
- Enhance knowledge of available resources at discharge
The Rehabilitation Unit accepts referrals from physicians, healthcare professionals, family members, and patients themselves. Following a referral, a complimentary pre-admission assessment is completed.
