Outpatient Services at Newman Regional Health include:
Outpatient Surgery
At Newman Regional Health, patients having same day surgery and those having diagnostic procedures such as endoscopy, enjoy the close attention from the nursing staff. The Same Day Surgery Unit is an area where patients stay for surgery or diagnostic procedures then go home that same day. It is conveniently located by registration, radiology, and surgery. Patients are admitted prior to their procedure and recover in private, quiet rooms. The restful environment allows the dedicated, experienced staff to provide individualized care for the patient and family. Post procedure phone calls made by the Same Day Surgery staff allow patients an opportunity to ask questions regarding their procedure.

Pharmacy
Newman Hospital's Registered Pharmacists dispense medications and counsel patients. Pharmacists routinely see patients upon admission and dismissal to the hospital. If you have questions about your medications, please contact us at (620)343-6800, ext. 1500.
Our pharmacists provide information to patients and caregivers about:
- the name of your medicine
- what the medicine is suppose to do
- how and when to take the medicine
- what to do if you miss a dose
- any possible side effects
- what to do if side effects occur
- any interactions with food or other medications
Pharmacists also work with your doctor and the nurses to:
- provide the appropriate dose of your medications
- prevent duplication of medications
- monitor for side effects, allergic reactions, or interactions with other medications
- changes in your medications when you are dismissed from the hospital

Laboratory
The Laboratory at Newman Regional Health provides accurate diagnostic test results and support services in a timely and cost-effective manner to our customers. Our laboratory is open and staffed 24 hours a day to assist you. No appointments are required for routine blood collection. Laboratory tests are performed upon the written order of a licensed healthcare provider.
Our Laboratory is federally approved and licensed by CMS under CLIA to provide testing for Medicare and Medicaid programs.

Professional staff
Pathologists, board-certified in anatomical and clinical pathology
Laboratory staff – technologists, technicians, phlebotomists and office support
Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Serology
Routine hematology, chemistry and urinalysis tests are available at all times. In addition, we perform a variety of specialized tests, including cardiac markers, BNP, drug-of-abuse screens, therapeutic drug levels and toxicology tests.
Routine coagulation tests available include Protime/PT (with INR), APTT, Fibrinogen, and D-Dimer testing.
Routine serology tests such as Mono Test, Streptozyme, C-Reactive Protein, Rheumatoid Factor, and pregnancy testing (qualitative and quantitative) are available at all times.
Microbiology
Our microbiology department provides identification of disease-causing aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. In addition, we perform antimicrobial susceptibility testing for most aerobic bacteria. We also utilize automated blood culture systems. Rapid antigen testing is available to diagnose infections such as strep throat, influenza and RSV.
Transfusion
Our transfusion service maintains an inventory of blood and blood components for transfusion to our inpatients and outpatients. We routinely stock red blood cells of all blood types as well as fresh frozen plasma. Plateletpheresis packs and specially prepared red cell units are available by special order. The American Red Cross out of Wichita, Kansas is our blood supplier.
Cytology and Histopathology
Our certified cytotechnologist processes and reads Pap smears and provides cytology services. The Laboratory processes surgically removed tissue for interpretation by the pathologists at Peterson Laboratory Services, P.A. in Manhattan, Kansas.
Occupational Services
The Laboratory is a collection site for DOT and NON-DOT drug testing and offers this service to the surrounding communities. Breath alcohol testing (BAT) is also available. Please call to schedule any of our Occupational Services – (620) 343-6800 ext 1200.
Quality
A comprehensive quality control program has been established to monitor for precision, reliability and accuracy. All anatomical pathology specimens are reviewed by two pathologists before results are released. The Laboratory Department is committed to improvement of quality, processes, turnaround times and customer service.

Patients who experience acute or chronic non-healing wounds can receive convenient and comprehensive outpatient treatment at Newman Regional Wound Care Clinic.
Nationally, approximately 7 million people suffer from wounds that will not heal -- a serious problem that can lead to amputation of limbs and dramatically impaired quality of lilfe. Associated with inadequate circulation, poorly functioning veins ad immobility, non-healing wounds occur most frequently in the elderly and people with diabetes.

Outpatient Infusion Clinic
Patients receive intravenous (IV) medication therapy such as chemotherapy, antibiotics, immunologic agents as well as blood transfusions in our newly remodeled Outpatient Infusion Clinic. We offer patients a comfortable homey atmosphere to relax in while they receive their infusion. Each infusion station has a television to help pass the time during treatment.
The state-of-the-art Outpatient Infusion Clinic is located on the 2nd Floor of Newman Regional Health. Your doctor can call our Centralized Scheduling Department at (620) 343-6800, ext. 1167.

Hospice
Hospice is a philosophy of care that provides holistic services for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Hospice services are most often provided in a patient's own home, assisted living facility, or nursing home. The goal of hospice is not to cure illness or hasten death, but to help patients achieve the highest quality of life possible. By placing an mphasis on quality of life and providing expert symptom management, hospice care allows patients to spend time focusing on the things that ar the most important and meaningful to them.

Diabetes Education
Diabetes Education is an outpatient program for adults with diabetes or the parents of children with diabetes learn to help manage the condition and make healthy choices. Since family support and involvement are important, a support person is encouraged to attend with the participant. Diabetes Education provides education and guidance specifically tailored to the needs of each individual.
Our Diabetes Education Program includes:
- Blood glucose monitoring
- Diabetes disease process
- Healthy eating
- Physical activity
- Medications
- Acute and chronic complications
- Psychosocial issues
- Health and behavior change.
The Newman Regional Health Diabetes Education program maintains the American Diabetes Association Award of Education Recognition for quality diabetes patient education since December 1998. The Diabetes Education team consists of dedicated professionals who have an interest and additional education in diabetes management.
Enrollment
Enroll in Diabetes Education by obtaining a referral and individualized treatment plan from your physician. Many insurance companies are now paying for Diabetes Education programs if ordered by a physician. Day and evening classes are available. Call 620-343-6800, ext. 1803 for information.

Medical Nutrition Therapy
Newman Regional Health offers Medical Nutritional Therapy for people with a medical diagnosis such as diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity or a specific nutritional need. Our registered dietitian works with the patient individually to create a realistic meal plan and determines appropriate lifestyle changes needed for a healthy lifestyle. Medical nutrition therapy is provided on an outpatient basis and under the direction of the physician. Many insurance companies are now paying for medical nutrition therapy if ordered by a physician.
