Meet The Doctor
Derek J. Brown, M.D.
"As a pediatric facilitator and advocate, I enjoy working with newborns, toddlers and teens and watching them blossom, grow and succeed. As a proud father, I feel I am better able to listen to and comprehend parent questions and identify with the anxiety they feel when their child is ill."
Dr. Derek Brown joined Newman Pediatrics in 2009. He graduated with honors (Magna Cum Laude) from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He then received his medical degree from the Finch University of Health Sciences at the Chicago Medical School, where he performed clinical research in emergency medicine and gastrointestinal specialties. In addition, Dr. Brown received a grant from Ronald McDonald’s Children’s Charities for work in Adolescent Substance Abuse Prevention in the Lake and Cook County communities in Illinois.
Dr. Brown completed his residency training in pediatrics at the University of Illinois in Chicago and practiced for three years in the west suburbs of Chicago before moving to Emporia, Kansas. He speaks Spanish and his special interests include asthma, gastrointestinal diseases, childhood obesity and ADHD.
